Dialium is a genus of legume in the Caesalpinioideae family. The genus consists of about 30 species,of which most species occur in Africa [1] and some species are found in Asia [2].Previous phytochemical studies of plants of the genus Dialium revealed the presence of steroids, terpenoids, polyphenols and oleanolic acid glycosides [3,4].Dialium cochinchinense Pierre is a large and popular tree in Vietnam, distributed from the North to the South. Many parts of the plant have been used in folk medicine for treating various diseases, and the fruits of this species are also used as food as they help to improve appetite and digestion. Our screening program on plants of Dialium genus in Vietnam found that the ethyl acetate extract of D.cochinchinense stem bark showed potential cytotoxic effect against the KB cancer cell line(36.27% inhibition of KB cell line growth at the concentration of 1 μg/mL).To the best of our knowledge, this is the first phytochemical study on D.cochinchinense, which led to the isolation and characterization of 10 compounds(1-10).The structures of the isolated compounds were established,by means of spectroscopic methods and by comparison with previously reported data,as friedelin(1)[5],taraxerol(2)[6],isoswertisin(3)[7],epitaraxerol(4)[8],ursolic acid(5)[9],6-methoxycalopogonium isoflavone A(6)[10],velutin(7)[11],3',4'-O-dimethyltaxifolin(8)[12],7,3',4'-O-trimethyltaxifolin(9)[13],and durmillone(10)[14].
