Panax notoginseng(Burkili)RH.Chen is an important medicinal plant for cardiovascular diseases; however,in the process of its growth,it is easily infected by harmful microorganisms.The root-rot disease of Panax notoginseng caused by pathogenic fungus such as Fusarium oxysporum,Fusarium solani,Plectosphaerella cucumerina,and Alternaria panax,etc.is the main factor in the continuous cropping obstacle of Panax notoginseng(1-3).As the most common genus in the environment of Actinomycetes,Streptomyces is the main contributor to the development of antifungal antibiotics(4,5).In the course of searching for antibiotics from the genus Streptomyces(6,7),strain YIM PH2O103 exhibited antifungal activities against some phytopathogenic fungi of root-rot diseases of Panax notoginseng.Herein we report on the cyclic peptide secondary metabolites with antifungal activity against root-rot pathogens of Panax notoginseng produced by the isolate YIM PH2O103.The producing strain YIM PH2O103 was isolated from a Panax notoginseng rhizosphere soil sample collected in WenShan County,Yunnan Province,China.It was identified as Streptomyces yatensis based on the morphological and phylogenetic analysis of its 165 rRNA gene sequence according to the method described previously(8).A voucher specimen was deposited in Yunnan Institute of Microbiology,Yunnan University,China.
