Pinus pumila (Pall.) Regel, widely distributed in the Russian Far East, Eastern Siberia, and high altitude areas of China, Japan, and Korean peninsula, is an evergreen stocky shrub pine species belonging to the family Pinaceae [1-4]. P. pumila, with the Chinese folkloric name Yan Song, is also called Haimatsu pine, Siberian dwarf pine, or Japanese stone pine in northeastern Asian countries [5,6]. In China, P. pumila is mainly grown in forests at Chang Bai Ridges, Small and Greater Khingan Mountains, as well as at Zhang Guang Cai Ranges [1, 5, 7]. Foliated twigs, oleoresins, needles, cones, barks, buds, and root extracts of P. pumila are highly valued and used extensively in Chinese, Russian, Japanese, and Korean traditional medicines to cure or prevent various diseases due to their disinfectant, antihelmintic, antiscorbutic, antibacterial, expectorant, diuretic, as well as wound-healing effects.
