In order to ensure the safe resolution of conflicts amongmaritime vessels, all vessels are required to adhere to maritimetraffic regulations, known as the international regulations forpreventing collisions at sea (COLREGs). These COLREGsdelineate specific evasive protocols for three encounterscenarios: overtaking, head-on, and crossing, as visuallyrepresented in Figure 1. This illustration underscores thenecessity for at least one vessel to take evasive action to enablea secure resolution of the situation.
