Systematic Review of Current Devices for 24-h Intraocular Pressure Monitoring

查看更多>>摘要:Glaucoma is a common optic neuropathy that can lead to irreversible vision loss, and intraocular pressure (IOP) is the only known modifiable risk factor. The primary method of treating glaucoma involves lowering IOP using medications, laser and/or invasive surgery. Currently, we rely on in-office measurements of IOP to assess diurnal variation and to define successful management of disease. These measurements only convey a fraction of a patient's circadian IOP pattern and may frequently miss peak IOP levels. There is an unmet need for a reliable and accurate device for 24-h IOP monitoring. The 24-h IOP monitoring devices that are currently available and in development fall into three main categories: self-monitoring, temporary continuous monitoring, and permanent continuous monitoring. This article is a systematic review of current and future technologies for measuring IOP over a 24-h period.

查看更多>>摘要:In order for the global healthcare system to remain sustainable, healthcare spending needs to be reduced, and self-treating certain conditions under the guidance of a pharmacist provides a means of accomplishing this goal. This article was developed to describe global healthcare trends affecting self-care with a specific focus on the role of the pharmacist in facilitating over-the-counter (OTC) medication management. Potential healthcare-related economic benefits associated with the self-care model are outlined. The importance of the collaboration between healthcare providers (HCPs), including specialists, primary care providers, and pharmacists, is also discussed. The evolving role of the pharmacist is examined and recommendations are provided for ways to successfully engage with other HCPs and consumers to optimize the pharmacist's unique qualifications and accessibility in the community. Using the management of frequent heartburn with an OTC proton-pump inhibitor as a model, the critical role of the pharmacist in patient self-treatment of certain symptoms will be discussed based on the World Gastroenterology Organization's recently published guidelines for the community-based management of common gastrointestinal symptoms. As the global healthcare system continues to evolve, self-care is expected to have an increasing role in treating certain minor ailments, and pharmacists are at the forefront of these changes. Pharmacists can guide individuals in making healthy lifestyle choices, recommend appropriate OTC medications, and educate consumers about when they should consult a physician.

查看更多>>摘要:NutriQoL(A (R)) (Nestl, Health Science, Vevay, Switzerland) is a questionnaire developed to assess the health-related quality-of-life (HRQoL) of patients with home enteral nutrition (HEN) irrespective of their underlying condition and route of administration. The aim of this work is assessing the questionnaire's reliability and responsiveness to change.

查看更多>>摘要:About 50% of patients do not take their long-term therapy for chronic conditions as prescribed. Many studies have centered on patients' adherence to a specific treatment or single conditions, but few have taken all chronic conditions into consideration from a patient's perspective. This study aims to explore factors that impact on drug compliance and to identify strategies to improve this from the perspective of patients with at least one chronic condition.

Misoprostol Vaginal Insert in Labor Induction: A Cost-Consequences Model for 5 European Countries-An Economic Evaluation Supported with Literature Review and Retrospective Data Collection

Short-Term Cardioprotective Effects of the Original Perindopril/Amlodipine Fixed-Dose Combination in Patients with Stable Coronary Artery Disease: Results of the PAPA-CAD Study

查看更多>>摘要:Long-term therapy with a combination of perindopril and amlodipine has shown a beneficial effect on the morbidity and mortality of patients with stable coronary artery disease (SCAD) and hypertension. On the basis of the antiproliferative, antithrombotic, and antiatherogenic effects of the active substances, we initiated data collection to examine the short-term cardioprotective effect of perindopril/amlodipine fixed-dose combination therapy in this patient group. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of perindopril/amlodipine fixed-dose combination on the Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) class and exercise capacity of patients with SCAD in everyday medical practice.

Simple Predictive Model for Identifying Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C and Hepatitis C Virus Genotype 4 Infection with a High Probability of Sustained Virologic Response with Peginterferon Alfa-2a/Ribavirin: Pooled Analysis of Data from Two Large, International Cohort Studies

查看更多>>摘要:Wherever access to direct-acting antiviral agents is restricted, dual peginterferon/ribavirin (PegIFN/RBV) therapy remains an option for treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 4 (GT4) infection, which predominates in the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa. Our goal was to develop a baseline scoring system to identify GT4-infected patients with a low or high probability of achieving a sustained virologic response (SVR) with PegIFN alfa-2a/RBV using data from two large cohort studies.
