UNITED KINGDOM: Traceability for Sustainable Food Supply Chains

查看更多>>摘要:Organisations worldwide are facing increasing regulatory pressure to provide greater traceability of their products. This pressure is two-fold, stemming from the need to protect consumer health and safety, and develop more transparent, future-proof supply chains. These drivers for change could be viewed as a necessary evil - a stick enforcing the adoption of new solutions and processes to provide additional data -however, this is not necessarily the case. Traceability and transparency require little more than a humble, serialised code - the vital link that joins a product to its online data, provenance, and history. Moreover, organisations can use the data afforded by serialisation to achieve much more than compliance.

UNITED KINGDOM: Food fraud - are you secure?

    2页
查看更多>>摘要:The authenticity of food is a fundamental right that every party in the food chain, from source to consumer, should expect. Adulteration of food in any way that perverts its intended purity and conceals this from any subsequent customer in the supplychain is food fraud. This may occur through addition, substitution, or removal of key elements of the foods or through misrepresentation via its description. It is often economically motivated but, in some cases, may be criminally motivated. Some good summaries on food fraud and food crime more generally can be found in texts from the US Food & Drug Administration, the European Commission and the Food Standards Agency and, likewise, there are introductory videos on the topic from the FAO and the EU FoodScience Hub.

UNITED KINGDOM: Plant-based meat ‘healthier and more sustainable than animal products’ - new study

    2页
查看更多>>摘要:Plant-based dietary alternatives to animal products are better for the environment and for human health when compared with the animal products they are designed to replace, say the authors of a new study.A new paper published in Future Foods argues that because these foods are ‘specifically formulated to replicate the taste, texture, and overall eating experience of animal products’, they are a much more effective way of reducing demand for meat and dairy than simply encouraging people to cook vegetarian whole foods.

UNITED KINGDOM/INDIA: India trade deal could undermine food safety

查看更多>>摘要:The Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) have reported that a new Fair Trade Agreement (FTA) with India could see an increase in the number of food imports of staples like rice, wheat and tea to the UK, but experts warn this may lead topotentially illegal levels of Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHP) in foods on supermarket shelves.India is one of the largest agricultural exporters in the world, but the county’s food safety standards are of concern to campaigners and the government a who are critical of India’s heavy use of pesticides food production.

UNITED STATES: CSP1 suggestions to the FDA for developing an antimicrobial use monitoring system on farms

查看更多>>摘要:Group wants a universal requirement for farms to record usage data and for the FDA to sample these data randomlyThis spring, the Food and Drug Administration commissioned the Reagan-Udall Foundation to explore how the agency could collect antimicrobial usage data from farms to better understand and limit antimicrobial resistance stemming from this usage. The rising level of antimicrobial resistance is a leading public health threat that will cause an estimated 10 million deaths per year globally by 2050. Antimicrobial usage in food animals can lead to the development of antimicrobial resistance in bacteria that harm humans.
