In a multistage incubator, there is always availability of embryonic heat. Eggs are set and transferred twice on a weekly basis. It is important that similar egg numbers and age composition make up each of the egg sets inside the incubator cabinet. Also, that each of these egg sets is evenly distributed within the space available in the incubator cabinet.

There is significant variability in the process of testing for mycotoxins brought about by the variability in sampling, sample preparation and analytical variation. Table 1 shows the variability associated in measuring aflatoxin in a lot of contaminated corn. Variation through sampling contributes to over 75% of the overall error of testing.

Eggshell temperature control in the setter has therefore become common practice to achieve optimal results. But what about the hatcher phase: Is an eggshell temperature of 100°F also the optimal setpoint after egg transfer? This article discusses the results of a Petersime trial that investigated three hatcher temperature profiles and their effect on hatchability and chick quality.

The unique formulation has been specially developed to enhance reproductive performance and control oxidative stress in breeding males. A comprehensive range of essential oils, flavonoids, and saponins, all obtained from natural sources, support the oxidative resilience of semen and its components and contribute to optimised hormonal processes. With Biostrong Fertile, Delacon offers a revolutionary natural solution to support the reproduction of breeding males, which increases the percentage of fertilised eggs.

The lesions it causes, the inflammatory process, the reduced absorption and consequent excess of nutrients in the lumen, contribute to the proliferation of certain bacterial groups, in particular colonisation by Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli and, above all, Clostridium perfringens. As a veterinary laboratory specialising in prevention for animal health, Hipra has been making an important contribution to the promotion of intestinal health in poultry for many years, bringing to the market vaccines for the prevention of avian coccidiosis, characterised by their high levels of efficacy and safety (Evalon, Evant, Hipracox).

The identification and application of genetic markers may improve the accuracy of beneficial trait selection. To identify the genetic markers associated with goose reproductive performance and egg quality traits, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) (Frontiers in Genetics 12) was performed for body weight at birth (BBW), the number of eggs at 48 weeks of age (EN48), the number of eggs at 60 weeks of age (EN60) and egg yolk colour (EYC). The GWAS acquired 2.896 Tb of raw sequencing data with an average depth of 12.44x and identified 9,279,339 SNPs. The results of GWAS showed that 26 SNPs were significantly associated with BBW, EN48, EN60, and EYC.

This fatty acid must be provided by the diet as the bird's body cannot synthesise it. An Italian study (Italian J. of An. Sci. 20, 1 pp.112-118) evaluated the influence of different levels of dietary LA on the productive performance, egg quality and yolk lipid profile of Longyan laying ducks. In total, 900 Longyan female laying ducks aged 24 weeks were assigned to six dietary treatments, each containing six replicates of 25 ducks. The six dietary treatments contained six incremental levels of LA (analysed content: 0.36, 0.66, 0.80,1.07,1.28, and 1.45%) and the experimental diets were offered for the following 20 weeks.

At that time, the first Seleggt Circuit machine for in-ovo sexing was installed at the hatchery in Zeewolde. In the following months, the Seleggt technology was used at full capacity to hatch chicks with Novogen genetics and other genetics 'free of chick culling~1. In the meantime, the technology has proven itself and generated such a great demand on the market that Verbeek has decided to install a second Seleggt Circuit system at the hatchery in Zeewolde.

The X-Streamer is the world's first intelligent incubator that turns data into maximum hatchery performance thanks to a unique combination of built-in intelligence, patented Embryo-Response Incubation technology and advanced design features. Petersime stands for state-of-the-art hatchery solutions that maximise return on investment for the entire lifetime of the hatchery. With a clear focus on big data and hatchery digitalisation, Petersime has developed the X-Streamer, the first intelligent incubator that knows which eggs are on board and uses this knowledge to guide its users to the best incubation practices and results; not only for eggs from easy-to-incubate mid-age flocks, but also for more challenging young and old flocks.

It involves the creation of a series of videos featuring Aviagen animal welfare experts. These videos will be used as part of a continuing education programme for PAACO-certified auditors, intended to help deepen their knowledge of poultry breeding and the role that animal welfare plays.nSome compelling topics that viewers can expect to see are: 'Stockmanship and pullet and breeder animal welfare', 'Brooding for optimal performance' and 'Care of hatching eggs from farm to hatchery'.
