The identification and application of genetic markers may improve the accuracy of beneficial trait selection. To identify the genetic markers associated with goose reproductive performance and egg quality traits, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) (Frontiers in Genetics 12) was performed for body weight at birth (BBW), the number of eggs at 48 weeks of age (EN48), the number of eggs at 60 weeks of age (EN60) and egg yolk colour (EYC). The GWAS acquired 2.896 Tb of raw sequencing data with an average depth of 12.44x and identified 9,279,339 SNPs. The results of GWAS showed that 26 SNPs were significantly associated with BBW, EN48, EN60, and EYC.

This fatty acid must be provided by the diet as the bird's body cannot synthesise it. An Italian study (Italian J. of An. Sci. 20, 1 pp.112-118) evaluated the influence of different levels of dietary LA on the productive performance, egg quality and yolk lipid profile of Longyan laying ducks. In total, 900 Longyan female laying ducks aged 24 weeks were assigned to six dietary treatments, each containing six replicates of 25 ducks. The six dietary treatments contained six incremental levels of LA (analysed content: 0.36, 0.66, 0.80,1.07,1.28, and 1.45%) and the experimental diets were offered for the following 20 weeks.
