According to news reporting originating from Nancy, France, by NewsRx correspondents, research stated, “The impossible boomer ang attack, introduced in 2008 by Jiqiang Lu, is an extension of the impossible differential attack that relies on a boomerang distinguisher of probability 0 fo r discarding incorrect key guesses.” The news editors obtained a quote from the research from University of Lorraine: “In Lu’s work, the considered impossible boomerang distinguishers were built fr om 4 (different) probability-1 differentials that lead to 4 differences that do not sum to 0 in the middle, in a miss-in-the-middle way. In this article, we stu dy the possibility of extending this notion by looking at finerlevel contradicti ons that derive from boomerang switch constraints. We start by discussing the ca se of quadratic Feistel ciphers and in particular of the Simon ciphers. We explo it their very specific boomerang constraints to enforce a contradiction that cre ates a new type of impossible boomerang distinguisher that we search with an SMT solver. We next switch to word-oriented ciphers and study how to leverage the B oomerang Connectivity Table contradictions. We apply this idea to SKINNYee, a re cent tweakable block cipher proposed at Crypto 2022 and obtain a 21-round distin guisher.”

According to news originating from Shanghai, People’s Rep ublic of China, by NewsRx correspondents, research stated, “Artificial Intellige nce (AI) technology is spearheading a new industrial revolution, which provides ample opportunities for the transformational development of traditional fermenta tion processes. During plasmid fermentation, traditional subjective process cont rol leads to highly unstable plasmid yields.” Funders for this research include National Key Research and Development Program of China, Shanghai Rising-Star Program.

According to news reporting originating from the Universi ty Indonesia by NewsRx correspondents, research stated, “Landslide susceptibilit y projections that rely on independent models produce biased results.” The news correspondents obtained a quote from the research from University Indon esia: “This situation will worsen class balance if working with a small populati on. This study proposes a landslide susceptibility prediction model based on res ampling, cross-validation, bootstrap, and random subsampling approaches, which i s integrated with the machine learning model, generalized linear model, support vector machine, random forest, boosted regression trees, classification and regr ession tree, multivariate adaptive regression splines, mixture discriminate anal ysis, flexible discriminant analysis, maximum entropy, and maximum likelihood. T his methodology was applied in Kendari City, an urban area which faced destructi ve erosion. Area under the ROC curve (AUC), true skill statistics (TSS), correla tion coefficient (COR), normalized mutual information (NMI), and correct classif ication rate (CCR) were used to evaluate the predictive accuracy of the proposed model. The results show that the resampling algorithm improves the performance of the standalone model. Results also revealed that standalone models had better performance with the CV algorithm compared to the Bt and RS algorithms.”

According to news reporting from Sao Paulo, Brazil, by NewsRx journalists, research stated, “Forecasting returns in financial markets is notor iously challenging due to the resemblance of price changes to white noise.” Funders for this research include Capes/print-brazil; Nyu Wireless. Our news correspondents obtained a quote from the research from Universidade Pre sbiteriana Mackenzie: “In this paper, we propose novel methods to address this c hallenge. Employing high-frequency Brazilian stock market data at one-minute gra nularity over a full year, we apply various statistical and machine learning alg orithms, including ARIMA, Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) with att ention, Transformers, N-BEATS, N-HiTS, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), and Temporal Convolutional Networks (TCNs) to predict changes in the price ratio of closely related stock pairs. Our findings indicate that a combination of revers ion and machine learning-based forecasting methods yields the highest profit-per -trade.”

According to news reporting from Xi’an, People’s Republic of Ch ina, by NewsRx journalists, research stated, “Tendon-driven continuum robots are of great promise in dexterous manipulation in long-narrow spaces, such as in-si tu maintenance of aeroengines, due to their slender body and compliant hyper-red undant architecture. However, major challenges in implementing this come from me chanical design and morphology estimation: torsion and buckling issues induced b y the intrinsic compliant architecture and the coupling of system gravity and di stal loads; and low-accuracy morphology model influenced by complex load conditi ons.” Financial support for this research came from National Natural Science Foundatio n of China (NSFC).
