    Implications of Salt Tectonics on Hydrocarbon Ascent in the Eastern Persian Gulf:Insights into the Formation Mechanism of Salt Diapirs,Gas Chimneys,and Their Sedimentary Interactions

    查看更多>>摘要:Gas chimneys,salt domes,and faults are vital to the movement of hydrocarbons within geological systems.Accurate identi-fication of these geological features is crucial to modeling hydrocarbon resources.This study explores the processes that have shaped the eastern Persian Gulf,focusing on salt diapir characteristics,origin,and fluid migration.Plate collisions between the Indian,Eurasian,and Arabian Plates have considerably impacted salt tectonics,developing key features such as the Hormuz salt,Qatar-South Fars Arch,and Zagros and Oman orogenic structures.Salt-related features were discerned through two-dimensional seismic data and drilling records,salt movement sequences were reconstructed,and fluid expulsion patterns were delineated using attribute preferences.The re-sults of this study revealed that fractured substrates influenced by regional tectonic forces contribute to the creation of salt diapirs,which serve as conduits for guided fluid transport.Moreover,these results showed that gravity-driven downbuilding mainly controls salt flow,while the circular arrangement of salt structures results from regional stress and interactions between different salt sources.Distinct stress-induced basement incisions compounded by the hindrance of initial salt movement by the Qatar Arch further contribute to the complex salt structure geometry.Crucially,the uplift of the Qatar Arch and stresses from the Oman and Zagros orogenies profoundly affect the salt structure geometry and depositional patterns across diverse regions,resulting in circular salt structures and gas chimneys.This study offers valuable perspectives for oil and gas exploration and provides a comprehensive understanding of the regional dynamics governing salt tectonics and hydrocarbon ascent in the eastern Persian Gulf.

    Precise Emission Reduction of Total Nitrogen for Jurisdictions in Laizhou Bay,China:A Simulation-Optimization Approach Linking Land-Sea Management

    查看更多>>摘要:This study aims to provide a quantitative basis for the precision emission reduction of land-based total nitrogen(TN)pollutants in Laizhou Bay(LZB),China.The total maximum allocated load(TMAL)of TN pollutants within jurisdictions around LZB was calculated using the stepwise simulation-optimization model after the division of source units,simulation of the concentra-tion response matrix,setting of the additional constraint conditions for stepwise source units,and calculation of TMAL.The load reduction allocation system for jurisdictions can be constructed on the basis of the TMAL and the load monitored or statistics.The index system for TN emission reduction included indices for two groups:a fixed index of marine emission reduction rate for jurisdic-tions,which was 11.93%on average;and threshold indices of pollution prevention rate at sources,the increment rate of pollution removal by municipal sewage treatment systems,and watershed retention of jurisdictions,which were 7.43%,1.58%,and 1.09%on average,respectively.Efficiency of pollutant reduction can be evaluated using a 3D hydrodynamic-water quality model.Simulation results showed that the precise reduction indicators achieved the seawater quality improvement target of LZB 5 years earlier than the equal proportion reduction indicators currently used in LZB Basin.

    Evaluating the Effect of Subsurface Structures on Freshwater Lenses in Coral Reefs

    查看更多>>摘要:Freshwater groundwater lenses(FGLs)serve as an important water resource for remote coral atoll islands,and different hydrogeological data of the islands determine the growth and decay of the FGLs.This study conducted a three-dimensional(3D)numerical model using hydrogeological data from a reclaimed island to evaluate the effects of different locations and sizes of sub-surface structures on the formation and macroscale stability of the FGLs.The results revealed that freshwater formation begins ear-lier than the base model when the subsurface structures are present.Constructing underground structures in Pleistocene aquifers leads to a significant increase in freshwater volume with the enlargement of the structure's size.When these structures are built within Holocene aquifers,as the burial site moves from the edge towards the center of the area,the maximum freshwater volume decreases slightly,with the largest difference being approximately 4×105 m3.When the structure constructed in the Holocene aquifer and its central axis does not coincide with the center of the simulated area,the maximum thickness of the FGLs will be shifted from the center of the simulated area to 20-25 m on the side of the structure.When constructed in the Pleistocene aquifer,the thickness of the FGLs increases.This study provides methodology for planning and management of reclaimed lands for water sustainability in the future in coastal areas.

    Distribution and Sources of Organic Matter in Surface Sediments of the Karachi Coast,Pakistan

    查看更多>>摘要:Under the steadily intensifying human activities in coastal areas,it is crucial to distinguish the sources of organic matter(OM)in sediments for better understanding of the environmental change.In this study,25 surface sediments collected along the har-bor and creeks areas off Karachi coast were used for total organic carbon(TOC),total nitrogen(TN),stable carbon(δ13C)and nitro-gen(δ15N)isotopic compositions,phytoplankton biomarkers(brassicasterol,dinosterol and cholesterol)and glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers(GDGTs)analyses,to trace the distribution of OM and identify its sources.TOC,TN,δ13C,and δ15N are in the range of 0.04%to 5.28%,0.01%to 0.57%,-17.55‰ to-26.31‰,and 2.83‰ to 6.04‰,respectively.C/N values range from 4.24 to 21.04.The δ13C,δ15N,C/N,BIT(Branched Isoprenoid Tetraether)index together with phytoplankton biomarkers show both marine and terrestrial OM input to the creeks and Harbor stations.In contrast,the stations from Western Coast indicate a marine source pre-dominance.A clearly impact of human activities is seen from sediments near river mouths.

    Sediment Dynamics Subject to Sea Level Rise in the Yangtze River Estuary

    查看更多>>摘要:In this study,a two-dimensional hydrodynamic and sediment transport model is established to quantify the influences of sea level rise on sediment transport in the Yangtze River Estuary(YRE).After validation,the model was employed to investigate the sediment transport and seabed evolution under four different scenarios of sea level rise,specifically,0,0.5,1 and 1.5 m.The results reveal that there exists a'transition point(TP)'of SSC in each main channel of YRE.Upstream of the transition point,the suspended sediment concentration(SSC)increases along with the rise in sea level,while downstream of the transition point,SSC decreases as sea level rises.Similarly,there are also transition points for topography evolution.The maximum scouring rate upstream of the tran-sition points exceeds 4.32%for a 1.5 m rise in sea level,while the maximum deposition rate downstream of the transition points is 2.48%.The sediment fluxes from upstream to downstream in the branches of YRE are enhanced by the rise in sea level.The direc-tion of sediment flux in the North Branch reverses downstream as sea level rises.The sediment flux from the North Channel towards downstream increases significantly,while there is no significant change in sediment flux for South Channel.Sediment deposition in the North Passage is also accelerated by sea level rise.In addition,the sediment flux from YRE to northern Jiangsu and Hangzhou Bay is also weakened by the rise in sea level.

    Analysis and Performance Evaluation of a Modular Finger-Mounted Haptic Device for High-Density Feedback

    查看更多>>摘要:The utilization of high-resolution haptic feedback devices in a virtual reality(VR)environment can increase the preci-sion of controlling remotely operated vehicles and reduce training costs for subsea construction operations.This paper introduces a novel flexible-driven wearable pin-array device.The spatial separation of the control box and actuator allows the device to attain natural and seamless interactive movements while delivering high-density haptic feedback in VR.The pin array consists of 25 haptic pin modules that run on a linear servo motor via a flexible shaft for force transmission.The analysis and calculation of the flexible transmission resistance effect using the haptic pin module's shaft length and bending radius were conducted.A series of experiments was performed to gather comprehensive data on the pin module's output,transmission resistance and error,and response delay to optimize its structural design and transmission strategy.The device's effectiveness in rendering shape and coarse texture was evalu-ated via two user studies.The results affirm that the introduced device enables users to precisely discern seven shapes and four dis-tinct coarse surfaces.

    Genome-Wide Identification,Characterization,and Expression Analyses of the Mucin Genes in Japanese Flounder(Paralichthys olivaceus)

    查看更多>>摘要:Mucin family members play an indispensable role in immunity against pathogen invasion.Currently,there are very few studies on members of the mucin family in Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus.In this regard,we characterized the mucin mem-bers in Japanese flounder as well as their involvement in response to pathogen infection.In our results,a total of 9 mucin genes were identified based on the whole genome database of flounder.Among them,MUC2-1,MUC2-2,MUC5AC-1,MUC5AC-2 and MUC5B are secreted mucins,while MUC3A,MUC3B,MUC13 and MUC15 are membrane binding mucins.The collinearity results showed that the adjacent MUC genes of flounder had collinearity relationship with many other teleosts.Phylogenetic tree results showed that the mucin gene of flounder was divided into several subfamilies.In addition,the expression patterns of flounder mucin family members were examined in 11 healthy tissues.The expression changes of mucin gene were also detected in six immune tissues(gill,intestine,skin,liver,kidney,spleen)after pathogen infection,revealing their role in disease resistance.Collinear analysis indicates the adjacent mucin genes.According to the protein interaction network(PPI)results,the mucin genes interact with the galnt genes.The results provide a solid foundation for further research on the function of mucins in mucosal immunity of flounder.

    Impacts of Low Salinity Stress on Physiological Responses of the Gill in the Iwagaki Oyster Crassostrea nippona

    查看更多>>摘要:Crassostrea nippona is a valuable species for aquaculture with considerable potential for commercial oyster farming.How-ever,it is vulnerable to changes in salinity levels in coastal environments.In this study,we investigated the impacts of low salinity stress on the physiological responses of C.nippona.The hemolymph osmolality could not reach equilibrium with the surrounding en-vironmental osmolality that was below salinity 15 within 1 week.Cell expansion,cellular valuocation,decrease of gill cilia,increased apoptotic cells under salinity 10 were observed through microscopic techniques.The activities of immunity-related enzymes,includ-ing alkaline phosphatase(AKP),acid phosphatase(ACP),superoxide dismutase(SOD),and catalase(CAT),were significantly in-creased at salinity 10 compared with the control group.These findings highlight the vulnerability of C.nippona to low salinity stress and provide insights into the physiological changes in response to fluctuating salinity levels.Understanding these physiological re-sponses is crucial for effective aquaculture management and developing strategies to mitigate the negative impacts of low salinity stress on C.nippona populations in coastal areas.

    The ceRNA Network Indicates Its Immune Function in Peripheral Blood Leukocytes of Half-Smooth Tongue Sole(Cynoglossus semilaevis)After Stimulation with Chitosan Oligosaccharide

    查看更多>>摘要:As an efficient immunostimulant,chitosan oligosaccharide(COS)can enhance the immunity of teleosts;however,the un-derlying molecular mechanisms still require elucidation.Competing endogenous RNAs(ceRNAs)are vital regulators in the immune response,but their roles in half-smooth tongue sole(Cynoglossus semilaevis)remain unclear.In this study,for the first time,we studied whole-transcriptome expression profiles and analyzed ceRNA networks in peripheral blood leukocytes of half-smooth tongue sole treated with COS.A total of 19 circRNAs(DE-circRNAs),18 miRNAs(DE-miRNAs)and 50 previously identified lncRNAs(DE-lncRNAs)were differentially expressed after COS stimulation.The DE-lncRNAs and DE-miRNAs targeted numerous immunity-re-lated genes,and were enriched in important pathways,including MAPK and Toll-like receptor signaling pathways,suggesting the im-munoregulatory roles of COS.Furthermore,we constructed circRNA-miRNA-mRNA and lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory net-works using DE-circRNAs,DE-miRNAs,DE-lncRNAs,and DE-mRNAs.Additionally,a ceRNA network with immunity-related DE-mRNAs was constructed,showing that 3 DE-circRNAs,12 DE-lncRNAs,and 29 DEGs exhibited crosstalk through 9 DE-miRNAs.Intriguingly,a DE-miRNA in the ceRNA network,miR-144-3p,was targeted by DE-lncRNA tnrc6a,and negatively regulated the genes of inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa B kinases(IKKs)(ikbkg,ikbkb,and ikbip)and c3ar1.Ikbkg,ikbkb,and c3ar1 were sig-nificantly up-regulated in macrophages stimulated by LPS.It could be inferred that ncRNAs participated in the immune and inflam-matory response by acting as ceRNAs after COS stimulation in teleosts.These findings indicate that COS could enhance the im-munity of teleosts by regulating ncRNAs,and lay the foundation for further practical application of COS in aquaculture.

    Effect of Mariculture on Planktonic Protist:A Case Study in a Marine Ranch of Northern Yellow Sea,China

    查看更多>>摘要:Mariculture exerts a direct influence on planktonic eukaryotic microorganisms protists.Previous studies have focused on phytoplankton,while the heterotrophic and parasitic protistan groups are unknown.Currently,in Muping Marine Ranch(MR)which is along the littoral zone of northern Yellow Sea of China,environmental DNA methods were employed to investigate the diversity and seasonal dynamics of near shore planktonic protists in response to mariculture.Through an integrated analysis of functional groups and a comparison to adjacent sea areas,we found a dominance of harmful algae blooms(HAB)species nearshore MR,and a significant reduction in the diversity of planktonic protists including photosynthetic,heterotrophic and parasitic groups.High nutrient and low salinity were suggested to drive the dominance of HAB species nearshore MR,which in return might inhibit predators,sap-rophytes and algal parasites.Our investigations revealed an Olisthodiscus luteus outbreak in spring,as well as significant seasonal variations in the planktonic protist community,which might be caused by the changes of temperature.The offshore hypoxia reduced the abundance of phytoplankton but increased mixotrophs and animal parasites of the protistan community nearshore MR.This study highlights the influence of mariculture on the overall community function of planktonic protists,and is helpful to assess the maricul-ture's impact on water health.
