Objective:To observe the effects of cadmium on liver injury of chicks, and to provide evidence for prevention, treatment and diagnosis of cadmium-induced liver injury of chicks. Methods:A total of 2001-day-old healthy Aidiega chicks were randomly divided into control group and CdCl2 treatment groups(low, medium and high dose)with 5 replicates per group and 10 chicks per replicate.CdCl2 treatment groups were given 35,70,140 mg/kg·BW of CdCl2 solution, respectively. After 24 h of cadmium treatment, heart blood was collected and the animals were killed and the liver tissues were separated.Hematoxylin-eosin staining(H&E)was used to observe the pathological changes of liver tissues. The activity of transaminase and the contents of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin-6(IL-6)and interleukin-1β(IL-1β)in serum were determined, and the indexes of oxidative stress in liver tissue were determined by colorimetry.Results:35,70 mg/kg CdCl2 could significantly increase the activity of aminotransferase in serum of chicks(P<0.01).The pathological changes such as vacuolar degeneration, inflammatory infiltration and cell death were observed in chicken liver cells.GSH content and SOD activity were significantly decreased(P<0.01),MDA content was significantly increased(P<0.01),and serum inflammatory cytokines IL-1β,IL-6 and TNF-α contents were significantly increased(P<0.01).Conclusion:CdCl2 can induce oxidative stress in liver tissue of chicks, accompanied by inflammation.
