Construction of Clan Order and Competition among Villages in Huizhou Region during the Ming and Qing Dynasties:A Study Centered on the Wu Clan in Qidong Area
In Huizhou villages where each clan lives in a compact community,clans are not only the builders of internal order,but also the main body and important force in maintaining village order.During the Ming and Qing dynasties,Huizhou clan elites actively promoted the process of clan organization,maintained the stability of village social order,and became the controllers of actual power in village society through measures such as compiling clan genealogies,formulating sacrificial rules,promoting ritual education,and offering economic assistance.The Wu clan in Qidong area,located in the 11th capital of Qimen County,has also enhanced their competitive strength in village society through the construction and improvement of its clan order.
