Will the Use of Internet Affect the Rural Residential Land Transfer?——Empirical Evidence from 27 Provinces in China
This study attempts to reveal the influence of Internet use on decision-making in rural residential land transfer behavior and its mechanism, and empirically verifies 4,668 survey data from 27 provinces (including autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government)by using China Household Finance Survey (CHFS).The methods employed include endogenous switching Probit model and counter-factual analysis. The results show that:the use of Internet not only directly promotes the transfer of rural residential land, but also indirectly promotes it through intermediary paths such as information acquisition and demand publication.Through increasing the popularization and application of the Internet, the rural residential land transfer can be promoted further. In particular, promoting the use of Internet by peasants who do not have access to it before can increase the probability of their transfer of rural residential land by 3.1%.Rural residential land area, rural residential land value perception and new house purchase plan also have a positive role in promoting the rural residential land transfer. Thus,it is necessary to create a good external environment to make it easy for peasants to use the Internet to obtain information about rural residential land, and to publicize their demands for rural residential land transfer. At the same time,it is suggested to comprehensively consider the factors that affect the use of Internet and the rural residential land transfer, and implement classified policies.
