Study on waterlogging tolerance of Juglans sigillata
In order to evaluate the waterlogging tolerance of Juglans sigillata,a potted water control method was used to measure and analyze the photosynthetic rate and leaf physiological indexes of J.sigillata at a flooding depth of 10,20 and 30 cm,respectively, and then the growth performances were observed. The results showed that J.sigillata leaves with a flooding depth of 10 cm began to wither after 5 days of flooding, the net photosynthetic rate, relative conductivity, malondialdehyde content and relative water content of the leaves were not significantly different from those of the control (P>0.05),however,the content of soluble sugars first increased and then de-creased,compared with the control, the leaves of walnuts with a flooding depth of 20 cm and 30 cm,respectively, wilted after 4 days of flooding, and with the extension of flooding time, the net photosynthetic rate, relative con-ductivity,and malondialdehyde content of the leaves generally increased first and then decreased. The relative water content of the leaves showed a downward trend, and the soluble sugar content first increased and then de-creased.Through the research,it was concluded that when J.sigillata root system was more than half of the verti-cal distribution area of the flooded root system, the waterlogging damage usually started within 4 days. Therefore, after more than 4 consecutive days of rainfall in summer in Sichuan and the soil reached saturated water content, walnuts were prone to weaken growth, fruit drop or even death. At this time,it was necessary to strengthen the management of soil drainage or strengthen the selection of waterlogging resistant varieties.
