Detection on Pollen Morphology and Viability of Alien Invasive Species Alternanthera philoxeroides
[Objective] The aim was to study the pollen morphology and viability of an alien invasive species Alternanthera philoxeroides. [ Method] The pollen morphology of A. philoxeroides was observed by light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, and its pollen viability pollen was detected by pollen germination test, I-KI stained method, and acetum-magenta stained method. [Result] The seed forming rate of A. philoxeroides was lower than 1 % and the pollen was spherical or near spherical with the diameter of 24 - 32 μm. Under the scanning e-lectron microscopy, the majority of pollen grains was abnormal, the development of the aperture wall was not complete and it had rupture. The pollen germination rate was low, being about 4. 3% , and the rate of dyeing of I-KI and acetum-magenta was also low, being 5. 4% and 6.8% , resp. The sexual propagation ability of A. philoxeroides was lower. [Conclusion] The pollen sterility may be the main reason for the low seed set ratio or no seed of A. philoxeroides. Its asexual propagation ability should be primarily considered in the prevention of A. philoxe-roides.
