Effects of Grafting Methods and Periods on Growth and Development of Zhenan Chinese Chestnuts(Castanea mollissima BL.) in Shaanxi Province
[Objective]The research aimed to study the effects of grafting methods and periods on growth and development of Zhenan Chinese chestnuts, to provide the technical support for regulating grafting techniques and industrialization development of Chestnut(Castanea mollissima BL.). [Method] Bark grafting, cleft grafting and cutting grafting were used to implement grafting experiment in different growth periods in Zhenan County in 2006 and 2007. The influences of grafting methods and periods on growth and development of Castanea mollissima BL. were studied. [ Result] The results showed that the survival rate of Castanea mollissima BL grew in mountainous area in southern Shaanxi reached 88.6% -93.0% using bark grafting from March 30 to 10 April, and the mean length of one year old shoots of grafted plants was 132.9 cm.[ Conclusion ] Bark grafting is a feasible and ideal method and easy to spread.
