Progress in Hormonal Regulation to Sex Differentiation in Higher Plants
Sex expression of higher plants is polymorphic and labile. Phytohormone plays an important role in the regulation of the sex differentiation in higher plants. It is generally believed that GA and cytokinin are the main plant hormones affecting sex differentiation, and other hormones affect sex differentiation by changing the activities of GA and cytokinin. Phytohorrnone and animal sex hormones are similar in affecting the sex expression in plants at physiological and biochemical levels. Molecular studies showed that phytohormone is one of the inducing signals in sex differentiation. The same hormone may induce different sex expressing processes in different plants by different signal transduction. Identification and study on genes regulating sex differentiation are helpful for revealing the molecular mechanism of phytohormone regulating sex differentiation, and the relational work is still at the early stage.
