Preliminary Research on the Antibacterial Activity of Mugwort
[ Objective ] The new approach of integrated development and utilization of mugwort plant was explored through the research on the extract from mugwort and the fumigation of mugwort on the inhibition to 3 microorganisms; E. coli, B. subtilis and Penicillium. [ Method] The inhibitory role of the extract with various concentrations from mugwort and the fumigation of mugwort to 3 microorganisms was tested with filter paper diffusion method. [ Results] There was obvious inhibitory effect of the extract from mugwort and the fumigation of mugwort to E. coli,B. subtilis and Penicillium. The order of the inhibitory effect of the treatments to 3 microorganisms was E. coli > B. subtilis > Penicillium. The minimum concentration of the extract from mugwort inhibiting the E. coli, B. subtilis and Penicillium was 0.033 3, 0.028 6 and 0.040 0 g/ml, respectively. [Conclusion] It was confirmed the mugwort had inhibitory effect on bacteria and the inhibitory effect of the mugwort on bacteria was stronger than on mold.
