Study on Cytological and Spore Germination of Several Bryophytes from Karakorum Mountain in Xinjiang
[ Objective] The study aimed to discuss the cytological and spore germination of several bryophytes from Karakorum Mountain in Xinjiang. [ Method] The chromosome numbers of 3 kinds of bryophytes from Karakorum Mountain area in Xinjiang were observed by the microsoope and the basic process, germination capability and development feature of the spore germination for other 2 kinds of bryophytes were illustrated and analyzed through the observation by the optical microscope. [ Result ] The chromosome numbers of 3 bryophytes from Karakorum Mountain area in Xinjiang were as follows: Syntrichia longimucronata (X. J. Li) R.H. Zander,n =7;Pleurozium schreberi (Brid.) Mitt. , n =5;Bryum algovicum Sendt. , n = 10. Among them, the chromosome numbers ofS. longimucronata and B. algovicum were reported for the first time in China. The optical microscope observation showed that the spores of Pterygoneurum ovatum were in irregular spherical shape, deepbrown color, non-transparence, being the single-celled type spores, and after inoculation for 7 d, its spore germination rate could reach to 62%. The spores of Timmia megapolitana were in oval shape, yellow-green color, more transparence, being single-celled type spores, and after inoculation for7 d, its spore germination rate was up to 42%. [Conclusion] Compared to P. ovatum, the spore germination of T. megapolitana showed the obvious polarization, generally being single and double polar.
