Megasporogenesis and Female Gamete Development in Oenothera biennis L.
[ Objective ] The characteristics of the megasporogenesis and the female gametophyte in Oenothera biennis L. were studied. [ Method] Traditional paraffin-sectioning method was used to study on the development of megasporogenesis and female gametophyte of 0. biennis.[ Result ] The pistil had four carpels, and its axial placenta. There were a lot of anatropous ovules in every ovary, and the ovuleis was bitegmic and crassinucellar. A cell inside nucellus directly developed into the archesporial cells, then they formed megaspore tetrad by reduction division. Three megaspores at chalazal degenerated, and a megaspore at pearl hole develops monoembryo sac. After two successive mitotic, it formed four nuclear embryo sacs. [ Conclusion] The development of embryo sacs belonged to oenothera type in O. biennis.
