Studies on the Physical-mechanical Properties of Cryptomeria fortunei Hooibrenk Woods
The physical-mechanical properties of 20-year-old and 30-year-old Cryptomeria fortunei Hooibrenk woods were measured from their density, drying shrinkage, wetting swelling, water absorbing capacity, compressive strength parallel to grain, compressive strength perpendicular to grain, bending strength, modulus of elasticity and toughness. The results showed that the basic density, air-dried density, oven-dried density and green density were respectively 0.408 0,0. 503 0, 0.464 0 and 1.002 0 g/cm3, belonging to the low level; the differential drying shrinkage was 1. 688 0, belonging to the middle level; the compressive strength parallel to grain was 43. 200 MPa, the compressive strength perpendicular to grain on radial and tangential surfaces were respectively 0.408 and 0. 565 MPa; the bending strength and modulus of elasticity were 88.200 and 9 505.0 MPa, the toughness was 41.000 kj/m2. Except the compressive strength perpendicular to grain, other mechanical intensity of C. fortunei Hooibrenk belongs to the low level. The comprehensive quality coefficient of this wood was 3 221 x 10 Pa, proving that it is of high quality.
