Breeding of A New Foxtail Millet(Setaria italica L.) Variety Chaogu 58 with Herbicide Resistance
[Objective] The aim was to provide a reference for popularization and application of a new foxtail millet variety Chaogu 58 in a large scale.[Method] The parents origin and breeding process, main characteristics, yield performance and adaptability were introduced.[Result]The foxtail millet variety Chaogu 58 was bred by using high yield variety Chaogu No.9 as female and herbicide resistant variety Langu No.1 as male after six generations of directional selection.Chaogu 58' s average growth period was 119 days, plant height was 155.7 cm, leaves number14.6, both its seedlings and coleoptile were green, its spike was spindle type, it had green short hair, its code was compact, its main spike length was 20.2 cm, its single spike grain weight was 2.70 g, its percentage of grain was 80%-83%, and both its grain and millet were yellow.For several years, Chaogu 58 showed prominent and had characteristics with high yield, good quality and disease resistance in Shenyang, Liaon ing Province, western Liaoning Province.In 2012, it passed record for Liaoning Province non major crop varieties.[Conclusion] Chaogu 58' s comprehensive traits show better, and high yield and good quality, so it is suitable for planting in Shenyang, Fuxin, Chaoyang, Jianping, Tiel ing,Jinzhou.
