Objective] To explore the feasibility of study on the spatio-temporal distribution of PM2.5 in Nanjing by PM2.5 data collected in sta-tion and NASA MODIS aerosol optical depth (AOD).[Methods] The in-site PM2.5 data of Nanjing in 2013 was interpolated into spatial inter-polation.AOD was extracted by the dark like element method ( DDV) algorithm based on MODIS data. Finally the correlation of PM2.5 mass concentration was analyzed and AOD seasonal variation of aerosol elevation was introduced into AOD.Besides, the humidity factor was applied to correct the AOD, and the correlation coefficient of two revised values has been improved obviously.[ Results] The results indicated that the spatial interpolation PM2.5 can reflect the spatial distribution of PM2.5 in Nanjing.PM2.5 is mainly concentrated in Gulou and Jianye districts, and the concentration of PM2.5 is lowest in Qixia District. The temporal distribution of PM2.5 is higher in winter and lower in summer. The cor-relation between revised AOD and in-situ PM2.5 is up to 0.426, higher than that without correction.[Conclusions] AOD can characterize the concentration change in PM2.5 to a certain extent in the small and middle scale. The more accurate urban PM2.5 pollution distribution monito-ring system based on AOD will make the spatio-temporal distribution of PM2.5 more accurate, so as to make the PM2.5 pollution control more scientific and reasonable.
