The Dwarfing Effect of Paclobutrazol and Chlormequat on Kochia scoparia
[Objective]This study explored the dwarfing effect of paclobutrazol and chlormequat on Kochia scoparia in order to provide refer-ence for the ornamental value of Kochia scoparia. [Method]Two varieties of Kochia scoparia were used as materials, different plant growth re-tarders and different concentrations were used to treat Kochia scoparia. The growth indexes of plant height, crown width and main stem diame-ter under different treatments were determined. [Result]The results showed that there was significant difference between the effect of two kinds of retarders by different concentrations in seedling height and crown width. Paclobutrazol treatment with 1000 mg/L had the best dwarfing effect on high growth, crown width and main stem diameter, followed by 2000 mg/L. Under chlormequat treatment, 4000 mg/L had the best dwarfing effect on high growth and crown width, followed by 8000 mg/L. In terms of ornamental effect, 500 mg/L paclobutrazol had the best ornamental effect on Kochia scoparia 'Red feather', followed by 8000 mg/L chlormequat. 2000 mg/L chlormequat had the best ornamental effect on Kochia scoparia 'Early Red Flame', followed by 2000 mg/L paclobutrazol. [Conclusion]The growth of seedling height and crown width of Kochia scoparia could be effectively inhibited by paclobutrazol and chlormequat, and the overall ornamental effect could be improved.
