Effects of Pruning Time on the Second Blooming of Four Rose Cultivars
In order to ensure the floral landscape of major autumn festivals such as the International Day and the China International Import Expo, and reduce the use of annuals and biennials, four popular rose cultivars in Shanghai, namely"Angela","Dong Fang Hong","Red Velvet",and"Carefree Wonder",were used as experimental materials.Six pruning time gradients were set from August 5th to September 25th to compare the effects of different pruning times on the second blooming of the four rose cultivars. The results showed that there were differences in the flowering mechanism among different rose cultivars."Angela"could not reach full-bloom period in autumn through pruning. The control group of the other three cultivars were unable to reach the full-bloom period too, while the experimental group could all reach it.However, there were significant differences in the time and duration of full-bloom of the three cultivars. Therefore,in order to ensure the flowering regula-tion result at specific time,it is necessary to make flowering regulation strategies based on the characteristics of different cultivars.
