Calculation of Annual Maximum Wind Speed for Different Return Periods at Bridge Sites
Strong wind is one of the main disasters threatening the safety of bridges, and it is the key to the design of large bridges, which affects the safety of the whole project. Scientific wind-resistant design of bridge can effec-tively prevent or reduce the risk and reduce the loss. Taking Maanshan Yangtze River Bridge in Anhui Province as an example, with the help of the annual wind speed data of Dangtu meteorological station from 1960 to 2022,the annual average maximum wind speed series of 10 minutes at 10 m height of Dangtu meteorological station in the corresponding period were established by using the time-distance consistency correction method(The maximum wind speed from 2000 to 2008 was reasonably corrected by comparing it with the Maanshan meteorological sta-tion,which was not affected by urbanization). Using the Gumbel method to calculate the 10 minute average annu-al maximum wind speed at different heights and return periods in the bridge site area. The results show that the av-erage annual maximum wind speed at a height of 10 meters and 10 minutes for different return periods(100 a,50 a,30 a)at the location of the Maanshan Yangtze River Bridge is 28.8 m/s,27.2 m/s,and 26.3 m/s,respectively. Using exponential and logarithmic methods, the wind speed in the bridge site area is extrapolated to the maximum wind speed per 10 meters of height below 200 meters.
