The Relationship between Language and Image,Visual Types, and Theoretical Foundations:Traditional Poetry Graphic Patterns in Visual Interplay between Language and Image
In the context of the relationship between Chinese literature and images,linguistic-visual imitation occurs along two paths.Beyond themes and content, there is also a form of visual imitation, with the most typical example being traditional poetry and graphic patterns. In the creation of traditional poetry and graphic patterns,it is neither a case of having a linguistic image text first, which then"externalizes and extends"into another image text, nor is it a case of having an existing image text that"externalizes and extends"into another linguistic image text.Instead, the text, themes, and content of the linguistic image remain unchanged;it is merely the visual form and arrangement of the text that directly transform into"graphic patterns."The image text is essentially the linguistic image text with a changed arrangement and reading method;both merge to present the characteristic of the inseparability of language and image. The visual types of traditional poetry and graphic patterns can be broadly categorized into three major classes:physical form, palindrome, and spiritual intelligence body. The theoretical basis for these can be interpreted from four aspects:philosophy, philology, poetics, and visual principles.
