Architectural Methods and the Imperial System:Investigation and Reflection on the"Architectural Documents"Col-lected in the Siku Quanshu
The four-part classification method of the subset of classics and histories in ancient Chinese bibliography is not only a way to classify books,but also constructs the ideological and cultural system of ancient Chinese people and an all-encompassing knowledge field.As a masterpiece of ancient Chinese bibliography,although the Siku Quanshu does not set architectural literature as an independent category,it includes about 38 architectural monographs in the second part of the classics and histories,and a large number of documents related to architecture in the fourth part,while some architectural documents are deleted or omitted.The Siku Quanshu regards architectural literature as a classic book of governance and history of the Ming Dynasty,presenting a kind of departmental distribution thought and classic criticism concept that integrates Confucianism,applies the scriptures,immerses in etiquette,emphasizes the way and ignores art,purging violations,casts strong identity,benefits the community,apples the scriptures,pays atten-tion to research,preserves rare books,and advocates the truth and the hypocrisy,but fails to explore its value and function in architectural technology.Drawing on the knowledge and cultural system of classical Chinese bibliography to study ancient Chinese art literature can further consolidate the historical foundation of ancient Chinese art philolo-gy,excavate the inherent knowledge system,cultural concepts and ideological values of ancient Chinese architecture,and construct a socialist cultural system with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
