Effectiveness evaluation of health education and behavioral intervention for men who have sex with men of the fourth round of the Comprehensive AIDS Prevention and Control Demonstration Area Project in Anhui Province
Objective To assess the effectiveness of health education and behavioral intervention for men who have sex with men(MSM)since the implementation of the fourth round of the Comprehensive AIDS Prevention and Control Demonstration Area Project in Anhui Province.Methods The cities of Hefei,Fuyang and Ma'anshan were selected as project sites.Snowball method and network recruitment method were used to recruit MSM.Thematic surveys were carried out for the baseline assessment in 2020 and for the final assessment in 2022,respectively.The evaluation indexes included the HIV awareness rate,rate of condom use during homosexual behavior,proportion of acquiring HIV prevention services and propor-tion of having sexually transmitted disease.SPSS 17.0 was used for statistical analysis.Results 985 and 1 000 MSM were surveyed in 2020 and 2022,respectively.Through the 2-year implementation of the demonstration area project,the HIV awareness rate of the MSM increased from 57.0%in 2020 to 96.8%in 2022(x2=445.233,P<0.001).The proportions of consistent use of condoms every time during homosexual anal sex in the past six months increased from 47.5%in 2020 to 51.2%in 2022(x2=8.990,P=0.029).The proportions of those who received peer education in the most recent year,who were tested for HIV,and who were tested for HIV and knew the results of the test increased from 47.3%,52.3%,and 86.8%in 2020 to 57.6%,57.1%,and 96.7%in 2022,respectively(all P<0.05).The percentage with a sexually transmit-ted disease(STD)in the most recent year decreased from 7.7%in 2020 to 4.1%in 2022(x2=18.243,P<0.001).Con-clusion The behavioral intervention for MSM of the fourth round of the Comprehensive AIDS Prevention and Control Dem-onstration Area Project in Anhui Province have achieved certain results.It is necessary to strengthen the education of risk perception and the behavioral intervention of condom use for MSM.
