A longitudinal study of cognitive level and negative emotion in breast cancer patients during neoadjuvant chemotherapy
Objective To investigate thetrajectories of cognitive level and negative mood in Breast cancer patients at different stages of neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and to analyze the correlation between the two variables. Methods A longitudinal study was conducted to investi-gate 99 breast cancer patients admitted to Chongqing University Cancer Hospital in August 2022 to January 2023 by using the FACT-Cog(Ver-sion 3)scale,word fluency test, wiring test type A,numerical breadth test, anxiety self-rating scale, and depression self-rating scale to dynami-cally assesses changes in cognition and mood in NAC(TP0),after NAC Cycle 1(TP1),before surgery(TP2),and the correlation between the two variables were analyzed. Results The cognitive level of TP0~TP2 decreased progressively during neoadjuvant chemotherapy(P<0.05),and the anxiety and depression levels of TP0~TP2 increased progressively(P<0.05),Pearson correlation analysis results showed that the cognitive level of neoadjuvant breast cancer patients was negatively correlated with anxiety and depression in the TP0 period(r=-0.443、-0.446),Cogni-tive level was negatively correlated with anxiety and depression during TP1(r=-0.488、-0.522).Cognitive level was negatively correlated with anxiety and depression during TP2(r=-0.580、-0.539).Conclusion Cognitive level of breast cancer patients during neoadjuvant chemo-therapy has a tendency to decline;cognitive ability is affected by negative emotions.
