Mediating effect of perceived social support between discharge readiness and quality of life in advanced lung cancer patients with peripherally inserted central catheter
Objective To analyze on the relationship between discharge readiness and quality of life in patients with advanced lung cancer treated with peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC)based on the mediating effect of perceived social support. Methods Eighty-four PICC patients with advanced lung cancer treated in He'nan Cancer Hospital were enrolled from July 2022 to June 2023,and patient discharge readiness, quality of life, and perceived social support were evaluated using the readi-ness for hospital discharge scale(RHDS),functional assessmentof cancer therapy-general(FACT-G)and lung cancer additional template, and perceived social sup-port scale(PSSS).Pearson method was used to analyze the relationships between each of the two items mentioned above.A structural equation model was established to analyze the mediating effect of perceived social support between discharge readiness and quality of life, and the Bootstrap method was used to test. Results The effective questionnaire recovery rate was 95.24%.The total scores of pa-tient discharge readiness, quality of life and perceived social support were(112.00±12.50)points,(68.66±10.15)points and(46.00±7.12)points respectively, all at low levels. There were positive relationships between patient discharge readiness and quality of life,per-ceived social support and quality of life, discharge readiness and perceived social support(r=0.70,0.52,0.53,P<0.001).The patient discharge readiness could affect their quality of life(P<0.05).The patient discharge readiness could affect their understanding of social support(P<0.05).Perceived social support had a mediating effect between patient discharge readiness and quality of life(P<0.05).The mediating effect model had a good pathway, with a direct effect of 0.64 on discharge readiness on quality of life. The indirect effect of perceived social support on quality of life was 0.25,with a total effect of 0.89.The indirect effect accounted for 28.09%of the total ef-fect.Conclusion There are relationships between discharge readiness, quality of life and perceived social support in PICC patients with advanced lung cancer, with perceived social support playing a mediating role between discharge readiness and quality of life.
