Correlation of serum IL-38,sCD163 levels with lung function and airway inflammation in children with bronchial asthma
Objective To explore the correlation of the levels of serum interleukin-38(IL-38),soluble scavenger receptor 163(sCD163)with lung function and airway inflammation in children with bronchial asthma. Methods A total of 120 asthmatic children admitted to 903 Hospital from July 2020 to July 2022 were selected as the study subjects, according to the severity of the disease, and were grouped into mild group(n=48),moderate group(n=44),and severe group(n=28).The baseline data of children were collected, the serum levels of IL-38,sCD163,tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)and interleukin-17(IL-17)were detected by enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay(ELISA),the exhaled nitric oxide(FeNO)was measured by multiple tidal breathing method, and the lung function index-es,including the maximum expiratory volume in the first second(FEV1),peak expiratory flow rate(PEF),and FEV1/forced vital capacity(FVC),were measured, then the differences between the groups were compared.Pearson method was applied to analyze the correlation between serum IL-38 and sCD163 levels and lung function indexes and airway inflammation indexes;and logistic regression was ap-plied to analyze the relationship between serum IL-38,sCD163 and the severity of asthma in children. Results The level of serum IL-38[(76.78±16.39)mg/L,(63.54±15.23)mg/L,(51.82±13.67)mg/L]of children in mild, moderate and severe groups decreased gradual-ly,while the level of sCD163[(62.37±15.42)ng/L,(73.15±17.21)ng/L,(82.97±18.64)ng/L]increased gradually(P<0.05).FEV1,PEF,FEV1/FVC of children in mild, moderate and severe groups decreased gradually, while the levels of serum TNF-α,IL-17 and FeNO in-creased gradually(P<0.05).Pearson's analysis results showed that serum IL-38 was positively correlated with FEV1,PEF,FEV1/FVC,but negatively correlated with TNF-α,IL-17,and FeNO;serum sCD163 was negatively correlated with FEV1,PEF,and FEV1/FVC,but positively correlated with TNF-α,IL-17,and FeNO(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis results showed that serum IL-38 and sCD163 were the influential factors for the severity of asthma in children(P<0.05).Conclusion The levels of serum IL-38 and sCD163 have certain correlation with the lung function and airway inflammation of children with asthma, which are the influencing factors for the se-verity of children's disease, and can provide new ideas for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of children with asthma.
