Risk factors for fever after the transperineal prostate biopsy
Objective To evaluate risk factors for fever after the transperineal prostate biopsy. Methods Clinical, imaging and path-ological data of patients, who underwent transperineal prostate biopsy in The Affiliated Huaian No.1 People's Hospital of Nanjing Medi-cal University during January 2018 and December 2020,were retrospectively analyzed. The clinical characteristics of patients with fe-ver were recorded.Logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors for fever after the transperineal prostate biopsy.Re-sults Twenty-four of 343 patients had fever after the transperineal prostate biopsy. The urine white blood cells and bacteria count were normal, and blood or urine culture results of patients with fever were negative.Univariate and multivariate analyses results showed that prostate volume>60 mL[OR=5.87,95%CI:(1.34,12.98)],catheterization before biopsy[OR=8.17,95%CI:(1.53,17.35)],IPSS score>20[OR=63.88,95%CI:(7.08,176.20)],prostatic inflammatory cell infiltration[OR=11.02,95%CI:(1.43,41.91)]were independent risk factors for fever after transperineal prostate biopsy(P<0.05).Conclusions The main cause of fever after transperineal prostate biopsy is the release of inflammatory mediators, not infection.Patients with prostatic volume>60 mL,retained catheterization due to urosche-sis before biopsy,IPSS score>20 or prostatic inflammatory cell infiltration have a higher risk of fever after transperineal prostate biopsy.
