Secondary torsion and necrosis of the greater omentum caused by refractory inguinal hernia:a report of one case
Objective To increase the awareness of torsion and necrosis of the greater omentum, and to increase the recognition of elective surgery for inguinal hernia. Methods Data of a rare case of acute abdominal disease, torsion and necrosis of the greater omen-tum secondary to refractory inguinal hernia, who was admitted to The First People's Hospital of Yibin in January 2023,was retrospec-tively analyzed. Results The patient seeked medical treatment with"lower abdominal pain"as the primary manifestation. After taking the abdominal CT examination, the patient underwent exploratory laparotomy.During the operation, the hernia contents were loosened and repositioned, necrotic greater omentum removed, and conventional hernia repair performed. The patient recovered after the opera-tion and was discharged from hospital. No recurrence of inguinal hernia was found during the follow-up of 6 months. Conclusions Tor-sion and necrosis of the greater omentum is a rare acute abdominal disease, which can be secondary to inguinal hernia.Once the diag-nosis of adult inguinal hernia is confirmed,it is recommended to perform surgical treatment immediately.
