Anthony and Cleopatra:Shakespeare's Soul View and Cognitive Schema
Shakespeare expressed his understanding of the soul in his Roman play Antony and Cleopatra.From the perspective of Cog-nitive linguistics,through the use of metaphor in the play and the extraction and analysis of image schema in discourse,find that Shake-speare's view of the soul is deeply influenced by the Greek thought represented by Plato.On the basis of accepting and recognizing Plato's soul view,Shakespeare rethought the relationship between the soul and the body,critically inheriting Plato's soul view.It also reveals Shakespeare's political views.He opposes the Republic and supports the British Monarchy.At the same time,he emphasizes the importance of reason to the fate of rulers,individuals,nations and countries.
