The Mother,by Japanese author Ryunosuke Akutagawa,is a novel composed to explore the theme of human goodness and evil.In the novel,two young mothers of the same name,both of whom have suffered the loss of their children,suffer from depressive psy-chological hardships,but both present a sense of gloating over the other's similar experience.This empathetic difficulty is a projection of and reference to Ryunosuke Akutagawa's journey to China and his complex life experiences during this period.
