Effects of Age on Wood Properties of Two Eucalyptus Clones
Wood properties of two Eucalyptus clones from plantations of Leizhou Forestry Bureau were studied to examine the effects of age on key wood traits.Samples from the two clones,LH1 and U6,both of the hybrid Eucalyptus urophylla × E.tereticornis, were analysed for basic density, fiber morphology and chemical components. The results showed that FL (fiber length),FW (fiber width),the ratio FL/FW,kraft pulp yield %,tensile index and pulp brightness all tended to improve with tree age.The value of FL and FL/FW were 0.6 ~ 0.8 mm and 34.4 ~ 42.4 respectively.Comparing results from the same age, clone LH1 was superior to U6 for the properties ofFL,FL/FW,kraft pulp yield % and tensile index.
