Research on Sprout Control Method of Eucalyptus Stumps and Its Effects
This study investigated the effectiveness of various treatments for controlling sprouting from eucalypt stumps, aiming to identify an efficient method for stump sprout management and support the renovation of low-efficiency Eucalyptus plantations. The experiment used glyphosate isopropylamine salt as the treatment agent. The findings revealed that applying glyphosate isopropylamine salt immediately after cutting stump sprouts was significantly more effective than treatment applied 20 days later. Moreover, higher concentrations of glyphosate isopropylamine salt resulted in more pronounced sprout control. Application of glyphosate isopropylamine salt to the phloem of cutting piles proved to be substantially more effective than application to the sprout cut surfaces. From an economic perspective, treating phloem of cutting piles with 70% glyphosate isopropylamine salt emerged as the most cost-effective approach, significantly cheaper than traditional manual removal of sprouts. Thus, this method represented an effective strategy for managing stump sprouting in the renovation of low-efficiency Eucalyptus plantations.
