An Empirical Study on L2 Motivational Self System and Learning Achievement of Students in Municipal Universities
As a key factor to stimulate and maintain the enthusiasm for language learning and to deter-mine the success or failure of foreign language learning,foreign language learning motivation has always been the focus and hot topic of language acquisition research.Under the guidance ofL2 Motivational Self System,this study investigates the type and extent of students'English learning motivation and its rela-tionship with achievement of Non-English majors in China through a questionnaire survey.It is found thatthe level of municipal university students'English learning motivation is above-average,and they have the strongest Ought-to L2 Self and lower Ideal L2 Self.The girls and liberal arts students'have stronger Ideal L2 Self than their counterparts.Besides,there are significant correlationsamong three tenets of L2MSS,and there is a significant positive correlation between Ideal L2 Self and students'English achieve-ment.Therefore,the university and foreign language teachers should take effective measures to help students enhance their English learning motivation,construct clear Ideal L2 Self and finally improve their English proficiency.
