Zhongken and Donglang:A Comparison of the Chanters of the Gesar and the King Yalu
The Tibetan Epic Gesar and the Miao Epic King Yalu represent exceptional examples of oral literature within the literary traditions of China's ethnic minorities. This study undertakes a comparative analysis of the differences in how the reciters of these two epics learn and transmit their performances. It seeks to explore the cultural functions these reciters fulfill, their social roles, and their positions within their respective sociocultural contexts.Particular emphasis is placed on examining both the internal dy-namics and external influences affecting the recitation traditions and their transmission. This approach is expected to offer valuable insights into the study of King Yalu.
