Experimental Study on the Vehicle Collision Response of Socket Prefabricated Bridge Piers
In order to obtain the influence of pier section shape and connection interface form on vehicle impact performance of socket assembled bridge piers, two rectangular socket prefabricated piers with different connection interface forms and one circular socket prefabricated pier are designed and manufactured to conduct vehicle impact model tests. The influencing factors, damage evolution process, failure characteristics of socket piers subjected to vehicle collision are studied by analyzing the impact force time history, acceleration time history, strain response time history and failure mode of piers. The results show that the damage of socket pier under vehicle collision increases with the increase of vehicle speed, mainly manifested as local damage at the impact location and the root of pier column. The collision resistance of circular socket pier with the same size and the same amount of reinforcement is better than that of the corresponding rectangular socket pier, and the influence of connection interface roughness increases when the vehicle speed is high.Prioritization use of circular socket prefabricated bridge piers with roughness treatment connection interfaces are recommended when conditions permit to improve their safety performance in the event of vehicle impact.
