Abstract
Anthropomorphic pottery is a distinctive type of artifacts from the prehistoric period in Northwestern China. In Northwestern China, this type of artifacts has been present from around 4500 BC to 1500 BC.In other parts of the world,an-thropomorphic pottery first appeared in West Asia.Southeastern Europe has produced a large and varied body of anthropomor-phic pottery, the types of which are most similar to those found in China. However,in terms of manufacturing traditions and ul-timate usage, the anthropomorphic pottery in Western Asia and Southeast Europe were influenced by clay figurines, which were eventually used as burial objects. While, the anthropomorphic vessels in Northwestern China were influenced by clay masks, and during the Shang and Zhou dynasties, this stylistic technique continued onto bronze artifacts.Furthermore, these artifacts serve as reflections of practices and also records of social life in ancient times.
