From September to October 2020,a joint Paleolithic archaeological team composed of the School of Archaeolo-gy at Jilin University and the Nanyang Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology conducted a Paleolithic survey in the Laoguan River basin within Nanyang's jurisdiction. This survey led to the discovery of more than 10 Paleolithic localities,in-cluding the Shimudi Niandao locality, where 22 stone artifacts were unearthed. These include cores, flakes, debris,Type Ⅱ,and Type Ⅲ tools. The artifacts were primarily produced using the hammer percussion method;among the Type Ⅲ tools, scrapers are predominant.Hammer Percussion was used for retouching, with a focus on direct processing, and the techniques were simple. The stone tools are mostly small in size.Comparative analysis suggests that the geological age corresponds to the Middle Pleistocene, thus the locality is tentatively classified as belonging to the Early Paleolithic period.
