Effects of Abscisic Acid on the Germination of Phaseolus vulgaris Seeds Under Low Temperature Stress
Taking the Phaseolus vulgaris variety'Genoa'as the experimental material, hydroponic germination method was employed.Eleven treatments were set up,including nine different concentrations of ABA(100,75,50,25,10,5,1,0.5 mg·L-1 and 0.1 mg·L-1),CK(normal temperature control),LT(low temperature treatment),the effects of different concentrations of ABA on seed germination and the alleviating effects of exogenous abscisic acid on seed germination under low temperature stress were studied.Statistical analysis of seed germination rate and determination of physiological indexes were conducted,in order to provide reference for studying the low temperature tolerance of beans. The results showed that soaking bean seeds in a solution containing 0.1 mg·L-1 ABA improved their germination rate, potential, cotyledon length as well as antioxidant enzyme activity.Additionally,it enhanced their ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species(ROS)and malondialdehyde(MDA)under low temperature stress conditions.Furthermore, proline and soluble protein contents in bean seeds increased when exposed to low temperature stress.
