Rural China was a progressive journal edited and published in the 1930s and 1940s by the China Rural Economic Research Society,which was secretly led by the Communist Party of China.Since the 1980s,many studies have been carried out on the journal and its organizer,staff and debates.The relevant researches on the journal itself mainly focus on three aspects:the evaluation of the historical status and value of Rural China,researches on Rural China during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and discussions on the writer group,editorial ideas and cover design of Rural China.In regard to the journal institutions,researches were mainly divided into four aspects:reason for the establishment,key members,administrative problem and main activities and contributions of the society.Researches concerning the School of Rural China are mainly about two aspects.First,researches focus on the school's cognition of"economic nature"and"poverty causes"of rural China in modern times,as well as"what is the key to solve rural problems in China".Second,key figures such as Chen Hansheng,Xue Muqiao,Qian Junrui,Sun Yefang,Qian Jiaju in the school and their relations with Rural China,as well as their activities involved are frequently discussed.The academic circles have the earliest and most fruitful researches on problems of rural social reform in China,which are actively participated in by Rural China.Related topics include"the debate on the research methods of rural economy","the debate on the nature of Chinese rural society","the criticism of Liang Shuming's rural reformism"and so on.In recent years,while fully affirming the theoretical contributions of Rural China and its school in the academic debate,scholars have also pointed out their shortcomings,including"insufficient attention to the technical factors of productivity"and"unconditional opposition to reformism".Rural China magazine and relevant institutions,groups and ideas behind it are an integral whole.However,current academic researches on Rural China and its related topics are mostly carried out from a relatively limited perspective.Therefore,an overall academic dimension should be expected in future research.
