An Investigation on Language Attitudes and Language Usage of College Students with Native Speakers of Cantonese,Min Dialect and Hakka Dialect in Guangzhou City
Guangzhou is an important metropolis in China,with a large population and complex sources. College students from Guangdong Province who are native speakers of Cantonese,Min dialect and Hakka dialect are an important part of the migrant population in Guangzhou city,and their language backgrounds and language competence are quiet different from each other. The language competence,language attitude and language usage of these students were investigated and there is a mutual influence among the three. In this survey,there is an obviously higher proportion for subjects' positive evaluation of the language attitude and language usage of Mandarin,while Cantonese ranks second. According to the survey results,the subjects' learning needs and willingness to pay for Cantonese are significantly higher than those in other dialects. The survey results and conclusions have important reference significance for the formulation and adjustment of language policies and language planning in Guangzhou,as well as for the improvement of urban language services.
