From"Cognitive"to"Unknowns":Constructive Imagination Enlightened by Kantian Philosophy
Rooted in the scientific revolution and the enlightenment tradition, the modernity of imagination are indispensable of epistemology.Modern philosophy questions the illusions and fallacies of imagination, while recognize imagination's deep connection with sensibility, intuition and artistic expression.Kantian philosophy systematically explains the function of imagination in cognitive faculties.Imagination also constitutes the primordial source of cognitive understanding, especially with its productive power to form new rules.Meanwhile, the universal communicability of judgement is determined by the"free and harmonious"relations between imagination and cognitive faculties.Sublime judgement furthermore demonstrates how imagination surpasses the realm of knowledge and nature. In contrast to the antinomies of reason, the transcendence of imagination implies that it can continuously outline a system of knowledge that contains"unknowns"and"contradictions"in the form of"possible world".Since Kant, the relationship between imagination and cognition is a hidden line in the philosophical interpretations of nature and technology.Non-anthropocentrism,science fiction research and the study of scientific creation rethinks and inherits Kant,to reiterate the constructive power of imagination deep in cognition.
