To understand the current situation of track and field course teaching in universities, this study randomly selects track and field teachers in 8 universities of Shanxi Province to conduct interviews. It finds the existing problems in teaching practices, such as track and field course teaching is bound by the traditional teaching mode, the teaching method is single;the teaching content is limited; the teaching evaluation system is unreasonable and so on. Then it puts forward various suggestions for track and field teaching: teachers should increase educational exchanges, pay attention to the reform and innovation of teaching content and method, use the sports games to fully arouse students’ enthusiasm of sports participation and teach students in accordance with their aptitude to make students fully understand fitness value, entertainment value and cultural value of the track and field course, improve the track and field course teaching evaluation system and make the teaching evaluation more fair, scientific, reasonable and feasible to attract more students to take track and field courses, so that the current situation of Shanxi college track and field teaching can be improved.
