As the main course of physical education specialty, the smooth development of essential basketball course plays a very important role in physical education specialty training objectives. Therefore, it is necessary to study the essential basketball course of physical education specialty. The research has used methods of document research, questionnaire survey, mathematical statistics, and logical analysis, etc. With these methods,some investigations and researches are done to study the existing problems in undergraduate physical education courses of colleges and universities in northern Jiangsu area, including teaching objectives, teaching contents, teaching methods, teaching organization and teaching effect. According to the actual situation and feasibility of the principle,the paper integrates current resources and conditions to put forward the corresponding rationalization proposals to solve the existing problems so as to make basketball course teaching more effective and targeted in undergraduate colleges and universities in northern Jiangsu area.
