Effect of different water supply on water potentinal and transpiring water-consumption of five Salix psammophila provenances
Daily changes in transpiring water-consumption of five Salix psammophila provenances under the condition of different water supply were studied by BP3400 precision balance, etc. Leaf water potential was measured using pressure chamber and water potential and the water-consumption patterns of seedlings under the condition of different water-supply were observed. The results show that water potential of five provenances decreased with declining water supply and seedlings of different provenances had different water consumptions in the same water status. The water consumption of seedlings decreased with increasing drought stress, while water-consumption rate of five provenances decreased with declining water supply. When the seedlings were in serious drought stress, the daily amount of water consumption decreased by 63.57% (Yulin provenance), 67.89% (Wushenqi provenance), 68.26% (Minqin provenance) ,59.28% (Dalateqi provenance) ,58.03% (Yanchi provenance)of those in sufficient water supply and that of Minqin provenance decreased the most.By studing water potential and the water-consumption patterns of seedlings under the condition of different water-supply, it may be beneficial to choose Salix psammophila provenance with strong drought tolerance in arid desert regions.
