An Empirical Analysis of the Digital Divide Phenomenon Among Rural Residents in the Northwest Region of China
With the popularization of the Internet and the increasing number of Internet users each year, the phenomenon of the digital divide has increasingly attracted attention in China.Using data from a large-scale sam-ple survey conducted in rural areas of four regions in northwest China, this study confirms the existence of the digital divide phenomenon among rural residents in the northwest region and reveals its causes:external environ-mental factors, constraints of individual economic income, and limitations of subjective conditions such as knowl-edge levels and ideological concepts.Furthermore,it points out that measures such as strengthening Internet-relat-ed infrastructure construction, improving farmers'income levels and education levels, and enhancing the moderni-ty of farmers'ideological concepts can help narrow the digital divide among rural residents.
